Pearson MyLab & Mastering

In addition to Pearson publishing textbooks, Pearson MyLab & Mastering offer tools for assessment, content delivery, course analytics, and more. The Canvas integration allows you to link your Canvas course space with your Pearson MyLab and Mastering space and send grades to the Canvas gradebook. Pearson MyLab and Mastering are also compatible with Gradescope.

Suggested Uses

  • Incorporate textbooks published by Pearson into your course (Note: Textbooks come at additional cost for students)
  • Improve student interaction with your assigned textbook(s)
  • Engage students with interactive content provided by Pearson

 How To Integrate With Canvas

These steps assume that you have already created a Canvas course space. If you have not, create a course space first.

  1. Open your Canvas course space and click on “Settings”.
  2. Click on “Navigation” near the top.
  3. There are two lists here. Drag “Pearson” from the lower list to the upper list.
  4. Click “Save” at the bottom of this screen.
  5. Pearson should now appear as a menu item on the left-hand side of your Canvas course space.

Creating Homework Assignments

  1. Navigate to Pearson MyLab & Mastering.
  2. Click on Create Homework under the Create menu at the top of the page.

3. Give your homework assignment a name and decide whether to send it to your LMS under the Start section.

4. Select the chapter and objectives you’d like to focus on under Select Media and Questions.

5. Set due dates, allow late submission for a penalty, and limit the number of attempts that students can work on each question under Choose Settings.

Creating Tests & Quizzes

  1. Navigate to Pearson MyLab & Mastering.
  2. Click on Create Quiz/test under the Create menu at the top of the page.

3. Set due dates, allow late submission for a penalty, and limit the number of attempts that students can work on each question under Choose Settings.

4.   Set a time limit, scramble the order of the questions, and decide how you’d like to display the quiz/test results. 

5.   Click Save and Assign to publish your quiz/test.

Setting Up Weights in the Gradebook

  1. Navigate to Pearson MyLab & Mastering.
  2. Click the Manage Grades button under Course Home.

3. Click Change Weights.

4. Select Category and Assignment Weighting to fill in what each category’s portion of the grade will be.

5. Click +Category to add your own category.

6. A pop-up will appear. Select the type of assignment you’d like the category in, fill in a name, assign a weight, and click Save.

7. You can omit results so that certain assignments will not have any impact on the grade. Be sure to save at the bottom.

Grade-Sync Settings for LMS

  1. Navigate to Pearson MyLab & Mastering.
  2. Click the Grade Sync Settings button under Course Home.

3. Click the checkboxes under the Send to Canvas section to send your grades to Canvas.

4. Select whether you want to send raw scores, weighted scores, or overall scores. Click Save.
